Leonard Peltier – monatliche Mahnwache in Düsseldorf

Freedom and Justice For Leonard Peltier!

In the matter of:

Federal Prisoner Leonard Peltier #89637-132 USP COLEMAN I, Florida

Mister President

Allow me to write to you in the name of many concerned people here in Europe in the matter of the indigenous prisoner Leonard Peltier. After more than 45 long and endless years, it is highest time that the imprisoned indigenous human rights activist Leonard Peltier be released immediately. Not only was there never any clear legal evidence for his conviction, but it is simply time to release him on human grounds of mercy and compassion – after 100 days in office, there would be no clearer sign of your will to see justice done.

Leonard Peltier is now an elder of 76 years. For many years he has suffered from diseases, some of them severe, such as diabetes, an abdominal aortic aneurism, prostate pain as well as high blood pressure. In 2017 he had to undergo urgent heart surgery. These serious and partly life-threatening health conditions, as well as the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, imperil his life as a high-risk patient.

Throughout the years of his incarceration, Leonard Peltier was a true model prisoner, and he is definitely no threat to the public. If released, he could and he would spend the rest of his days with his family and would play a valuable part in his community as an elder, especially for the youth. Thus, from prison, he has already supported some Native Youth Projects.

Mister Peltier has truly served his sentence, even if his conviction was more than doubtful. 45 years are enough, with over 16,437 days in high-security penitentiaries, at times in solitary confinement, far away from his family and homeland.

Dear Mister President, please send Leonard Peltier home – as a proof of compassion and as an act of mercy, in the name of human dignity and human rights, and ultimately as a sign of healing in the relationship between the indigenous peoples living in the United States and the US government.

Yours faithfully,

Re: LEONARD PELTIER #89637-132 USP COLEMAN I COLEMAN, FL 33521
Dear Mr. President Biden,
In view of the changes taking place in America at this very time, there must also be a change for one man: After 45 long and endless years behind bars, Leonard Peltier must be released. I am therefore appealing to you:
FREE LEONARD PELTIER – DON´T LET HIM DIE IN PRISON
He has been imprisoned for almost 45 years, even though his conviction was not in accordance with the necessary legal prerequisites. There is no evidence that proves his guilt in the crime for which he has been convicted. After all these years, more and more details are indicating that all the major witnesses in this case were pressurized and that evidence against Mr. Peltier was manipulated. All the evidence that proves his innocence was falsified and even the FBI knows about this. To say the least, this man has spent all these years, 16,437 days till today, in prison yet innocent! On February 6th his 46th year in prison will begin.
He is a grandfather, a father. He has a large family outside this prison, a community, a home where he could go to. And so many supporters. He could and would spend the rest of his days with his family and would play a valuable part in his community as an elder, especially for the youth. He has been a real model prisoner during all these endless years. He is a peaceful, respectful man; he is definitely not a threat to the public. He is 76 years old and has serious and to some extent life-endangering health impairments.
As a high-risk-patient, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he fulfills all the necessary reasons for release. I would like to draw your attention to the CARES Act and to Attorney General Barr’s order to „prioritize the use of your various statutory authorities to grant home confinement for inmates seeking transfer in connection with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.“
All I can see is that the USA is doing everything it can to allow this man to die in prison. Without any evidence against him, without a fair trial, without a new chance for judicial proceedings in the light of new evidence and new facts relating to the case after all these years.
Such a judicial system is neither adequate nor dignified for the United States of America.
Please transfer Mr. Peltier to his family. That would be a decision commensurate with reason and humanity. Thank you for your kind attention.
Please free him now!
